I Did Not Do This?

I did. Really.
~~~
I found it. Stashed away in some far away corner in the back bedroom. You know, where Kismet's at. Spending time with her (because that's what mom's do) I found this. Imagine my delight!
At the time, this was the only quilt book I had. It's a GREAT one, too, although if you're really new measurements of 1/16 or something that reads "+" is tough to work out. It seemed. I thought. It looks like perhaps not so hard?
I did it though. At the beginning of my quilt life. I'm amazed that I made this. The fabrics, the balance, the piecing. Sure, mistakes I can find but for a "One Year Quilter" without a pattern this is amazing to me.
~~~

Amazing too because I was so free and tried things. The fabric. I chose what I love. I pieced it with an eye to what I liked. And there was no pattern. Today I'm really into patterns. I prefer patterns. This sort of thing, I've grown away from.

~~~
I guess I have it in me though. Just not into it.
That is why I have to remind myself to sort through my UFO's ... you just never know what might be in there. What a find and it is lovely!
Glad you were being a good Mom and spending time with Kismet. You might never have found this wonderful top. I love it! Great work for a seasoned quilter, let alone a beginner. You certainly do have it in you!
Well, you must have had some serious talent or you could not have done it. I find I alwys stray away from the original and make it my own, somehow. Good mama!
Lovely - and what fun to find it and remember those days of early quilting. Glad you are up and about again - take care.
I have that book and it is a good one. I have one of the rulers that measures the +16 stuff.
That is one of my very favorite books - of my other over 350 books! Something about her colorways, etc. I agree about the "+" factor ... confusing, but am glad you managed to figure it out, even as a newbie! Just goes to show .... but then, every project I've seen you do, has ALWAYS been especially lovely. Good job, waaay back then. 8-)
It's a wonderful quilt, and, amazingly I don't have that book. I wonder why? That's a joke, I thought I had every book ever published. Anyhoo, it's great KD, and it just shows that we all start somewhere... looks like you hit the ground RUNNING! Well done, as always...
What a wonderful "find" for you ~ great piecing (as always).
Like we've talked before, you've found a way to honor what you truly love ~ and that's a good thing!
Well, it is certainly a delightful find! Just curious, why do you prefer patterns now? Obviously you were good at winging it.
Don't you love it when your furry friends remind you of things forgotten? What a wonderful early quilt, Karen!
Cheers!
Wow, that's a fancy block for a newbie! Obviously you weren't scared because you didn't know any better--and look what plunging in got you, a gorgeous quilt. Sometimes its better not to know what you're getting into....:)
I've always thought you were a very talented quilter, and I am right! I wouldn't have tried something like that when I first started quilting - didn't have the brains for it, for one thing! It is beautiful, Karen! What an awesome treasure to find - it pays to be a good mama! Thank you Kismet!
KarenDianne-
Nice quilt. Reminds me I should go to my basement and dig something out from years ago. BTW, I will keep you in my prayer list, my daughter has mild diplegic Cerebral Palsy...so I understand, as far as living with someone who has chronic pain, can be very challenging. But we know we can do all things who strengthens us and we have a HOPE, I see from your post below on the little girl who lost her life that you have a very good outlook on life...isn't it true we can always find someone who has it much worse than us, my mother who suffered with ovarian cancer never complained with all the symptoms and always thought about others who were suffering so much worse than her supposeably...anyway we must lean on HIM and stay in PRAYER, it is very powerful, he will supply us with all that we need.
:)Michelle (I have a rubber stamp that says "Sometimes Prayer is the only gift we can give one another".
What a fantastic find, when you least expect it. The quilt is amazing and I am glad you posted it. It sure should encourage new quilters to continue on.
What a great job you did. I love this little quilt.
I have that book too but admit that I usually go to EQ when I want to find a block or two to play with.
I'm always amazed at how different color combinations change the entire look of a block -- this is a great example of that concept.
Nice quilt. I think sometimes when we are new quilters we will do things without thinking about how had it is. When we get more experience we talk our self’s out of trying things.
Cool Quilts - Much appreciated to see these. I always had an interest in seeing the scope of others, to create their own pieces of work.
My grandmother used to make quilts and a few years ago, someone that was a walker on my MS walk team, made one for me. Want to see it?
It's called Quilt for a Cure.
Made of various MS walk and bike t-shirts...
