Movies that Changed Your Life posted Thursday by Nicole discussed some of the most influential movies in her life. Thought provoking and surprising. Surprising because when I got the bottom of the post and realized I really had to tickle those thoughts up. Tagged! Nicole also tagged: Susan of Blackberry Creek and Carol of Brown Quilts

A little difficult because Nicole had on her list an Audrey Hepburn movie and I also thought of the great actress in My Fair Lady. I couldn't choose that one though. It's a favorite but not one of the more influential. Here we go and thanks for asking, Nicole.

My imagination was lit up like never before when I first saw Excalibur. As a young girl, I wanted to wear the gossamer gold veil that Guenevere wore when she married King Arthur. One scene that grabbed my imagination? The return of King Arthur with his army on powerful mounts galloping through the kingdom. Powerful for it's dramatic display of Majesty combined with the mystical as the lands are literally reborn from the dead to the alive. Everything green, thriving and bloom-busting.
I can thank this film for my addiction to all things [literary] having to do with England and her Kings and lore. My bookshelves are peppered as I move through my life still learning genealogy and battles and old tales. It is my favorite of topics to read about.

You may or may not know that my Mom sews. I grew up at the foot of a sewing machine. That means I've been exposed to many a great old movie. Here's one of the best. At the age of 18 my Mom encouraged me to watch this with her while she was sewing. It looked like a stupid romance and I hate those but I agreed and got a lot out of it. It was a romance but that isn't what I got out of it. What stuck: Lucia/Lucy (Gene Tierney) struck out on her own with her daughter to raise at a time when it just wasn't done. She wrote a book! She found happiness on her own. I loved this movie at 18 and I love it now. So empowering. Thanks for this, Mom.

Easy Rider blew my mind. Completely. I'm not sure how old I was when my Dad encouraged me to see this film, certainly an adult. I'm not even going to write here how this film impacted me because it'll take too long. I just know that it's an important marker in my view of the American Culture. I will say thank you to my Father for ensuring that I have an expanded viewpoint about this era.

Thank you for the visit and the read if you were able to hang on and stay a while. I'm off to watch Madame Curie and sew.

Fabulous choices. It is so interesting to me what appeals to us at different stages of our lives. Especially when we are young. I used to love watching the old movies too. I went from being 13 and seeing Mutiny on the Bounty and wanting to grow my hair out so I would look like a Tahitian (right)---to seeing a movie like A Patch of Blue and being away of discrimination in its many forms. How we grow is so obvious in our choices of movies!
What interesting choices! I've not seen even one of those films. Guess I'll be heading to the video store. :)
I love old movies and actually watched a few minutes of Madame Curie this morning myself! Greer Garson was soooo gorgeous. I loved her as Jane in Pride and Prejudice with Laurence Olivier as Mr. Darcy. I haven't seen any of the movies you mention either (bits and pieces of them, but never the whole thing).
I, too, love Camelot and King Arthur and castles and such...
Great post, Karen!
Interesting list of movies! An excellent idea by Nicole for a series of posts. I loved King Arthur stories as a young kid too and even played Sir Mordred in a play in 4th grade with a wooden sword and everything (yes, I was the bad guy LOL!)
These all sound great and intriguing, I don't know that I've seen even one of them. Off the the store to begin my hunt. Wasn't The Ghost and Mrs. Muir a TV series?
I have not seen any of these movies although I have heard of all three. I think I will pull out my netscapes list and add these to it. Thanks for sharing!

My favorite is Easy Rider of the 3. Love those guys! TTFN ~Marydon
Sounds like an interesting list. I don't think I have seen any of the films you mentioned. I just can't seem to be able to sit through a whole movie. My all time favourite is Doctor Zhivago. Does that date me? Yeah! Probably.
Since I am a movie lover, this post totally intrigued me. I have not seen Excalibur - I have always wanted to - but have seen the other two. My MIL's favorite movie was 'The Ghost and Mrs. Muir", so that film always reminds me of her. There are so many movies that have changed my life, and they continue to impact me, sometimes for their sheer stupidity! (How could something like that ever get made?) LOL
You have given me something to ponder as I go through my day, Karen, and I thank you.
I have to revisit 'The Ghost & Mrs Muir" and "Easy Rider"
I love hearing how & why these made an impact on you.
What's so funny is that your Mom asked me to name my favorite movies and why on the first night Deb & I arrived! This is too trippy!
How come Asylum isn't listed? ;-)
Love these movies, and may I add that any movie that is of a different era appeals to me. I love the costuming and the mannerisms. Glad this is another thing we share.
Enjoyed reading this. I love The Ghost and Mrs Muir. (My mom looked a little like Gene Tierney when my mom was young.) I didn't see Easy Rider for a long time after it came out. Because my sister saw it and came home in a state of shock almost.
