Things We Lost in the Fire

In the fire of my passion I found it impossible to hold back on the circles. I wanted to start in, learn how to do 'em and tame those circles (I've never stitched) right away. With that passionate fire I started right in. Today we lost a block because of it. That fire!

~~~
~~~

The blocks were quite unhappy after they were photographed and viewed. The center fabric was too deep and it wasn't working for me. Just too dark. I went to bed thinking about how I'd remove the centers, just about breaking one my sleep hygiene rules: Don't think about your quilt when you go to bed.

~~~
This afternoon I started in on the surgical removal process. As I alluded to early, my first patient died on the table. It only takes one block death to learn.
~~~

I've learned. A Center often wants to speak for herself. She wants to get what she can in her own way, have her important place of distinction. She wants to be much lighter and not so dark. So I'll let the center fabric come to me rather than forcing it.

This isn't allowed. We had to make some changes but I do love Kippy in this photo. He was really testing his limits, too. ...acting like he was asleep.

~~~
So all in all, I'd say we're still truckin' along. A minor setback but back on the track. I don't feel like getting my @$$ kicked my this particular block. I just don't.
~~~

Thanks for listening... *karendianne.

I'm sure when the center speaks, it will be wise, wonderful, and perfect! Good luck--surgery of any kind is not fun.

Those blocks are great. I've always thought Dresden Plate was wimpy (usually pastel 30's stuff), but yours have pizzazz!

Frogstitching love, eh?

You know, you're nothing but a temptress. I only have 9,874 projects in progress and now I'm staunchly holding off getting that there dresden plate tool and plunging in. Care to develop a pool on how long my resolve may endure?

Hopefully you dosed them with some anesthesia first. Just don't burn your house down in the process, and if you do at least get the quilts out first! ;) Manipulate them until they sing to you!

You'll find the perfect fabric for your centres. I'd be tempted to just lay out a bunch of fabrics and play with them to see how they change the feel of the block.
Love, love, love that picture of Kippy! Look at that face! I just want to hug him!

I'm with Cathi--take out the centers, then lay them on different fabrics--even those you don't think would go. It's amazing how one shade of a color can make such a difference!

I hope the centers make their way out of the Level 1 Trauma center soon!

May not be allowed but that sure is one GORGEOUS kitty on your couch!

Let the circles be ... remember the process? It's hard at work here (I like the lighter ones, too)

:-)

I like everything you do, even the centers that displease you! And Kippy! What a kitty! He is so so beautiful!

Awww, but Kippy looks like he BELONGS right there on the couch. He's probably thinkin' that he blends in so nicely that you won't even notice him there.

I agree, like it has already been stated, go to your stash and pull out ANYTHING that you think might even, remotely work. Just pull ALL the possibiliities and then start actually trying them. Pin some circles on and then put the blocks back on the wall. Then you'll see what works and what doesn't. Like you did with those nosegay blocks, remember all the choices you were trying?

When that perfect fabric finally speaks to you it will be with true wisdom and confidence! Your plates will look marvelous! Actually they do already! Just don't burn the house down. As for Kippy - too cute!!!

good idea to listen to a quilt when it speaks the first time - otherwise you could waste a lot of time.

Lovely blocks!!!!

Good choice, I like the lighter centers a lot.

I go for lighter centers on de plates. Saw a fan quilt in an antique show the other day though that had a different fabric for each of the fan centers and for the backing...very wild and fun...tempting!

That Kippy is just tooooo cutemous. I would like lighter centers, but then you know I would never attempt the plates to begin with. The only plates I can do are the ones I used to eat off of! LOL

When the quilt speaks, you always listen, you will this time also.

Great Job!

Hugs,

Anett

How I love undoing what I've already done (hah!)- happens to me more often than I'd care to admit. When each block circle speaks to you, I'm hoping they will wait their turn and not talk over each other! Wouldn't that be awful? You'd miss what some of them had to say. I know whatever they say will be beautiful.
Naughty, adorable Kippy the Kat! Why are they always cutest when they're doing something bad?

I think the circles pop with the dark centers removed, so something lighter may work. Sorry that you lost one in the fire. I'm the same way with sleep & quilting - if I think about it too much, I am wide awake!

Quilt fire. You are funny. Yes! And I have such a hard time going to sleep when I've got a project on the brain or if I read one of my Japanese quilt books before bed.

I like both versons ... but ... actually prefer the darker centres.....
