Did you know this, that I'd be excited to run the Random Number Generator and see who is the winner of the Gone-away Giveaway? It feels really good to share these fabrics with y'all. So hold on. Let's go together and run it. We have 43 entries!!! I'll just tab over to the handy Random.Org site... 6 - Timestamp: 2009-12-11 12:58:52 UTC. That works out to be... Paula, The Quilter. Congratulations, Paula.
Thank you to everyone for leaving a comment and entering. It was a lovely way to send up packets of light to Daphanie as she left this earth and the company of all those she touched.
This is definitely not one of my favorite pieces. Blocks finish at 3.5" and the border will be from 3.25" (side) and 3.5" (top/bottom). It's a Lori Smith pattern gone fabric wrong. It's intended for applique in the borders which I'll not be doing since I don't know applique.
I can't believe I made something so Scrappy wrong. I can but I mean, gawd!!! It's a good thing I'm not always so "tackified" in my work else I'd be a depressed quilter. Maybe it'll grow on me, I don't know. Right now, I mean, I hate to say it but I'm thinkin' - loser! Balances out. We had a winner today and then, well, this quilt. Oh, hee. That's not nice, Karen. hee.
I'm about ready to show the state of "Cabin Tracks." I had this great idea for the border and then giggled when I realized "hey, Karen! That's the original plan you had." Sometimes I make myself laugh. It's funny when you do that, ha? Does that happen to you, do you laugh at yourself a lot? Oh do tell! I think it's a sign of a happy person, or something.

Them li'l blocks are savageable. I'd be inclined to turn 'em on point and alternate with some subdued creamy neutral CW stuff with somewhat oversized side triangles and then see about a border. Seeing them float on the cream will make you like them more, I think.
Congratulations to Paula on winning the giveaway. What an honor it will be to have these lovely, special fabrics to use in creating a beautiful treasure or to just look at and appreciate. I so happy for you, and for Karen as she enjoys the joy of sharing something so dear and special to her.
Now, about that little quilt, I really like it! Honestly. I don't know what 'turns you off' about them. The only thing I could say is maybe it is the layout that doesn't appeal to you or the way you've set the various color schemes together, but I would try a few things before you deem it a 'loser'. I think it is wonderful. BUT, one thing I learned early on was that we as individual quilter had to love our pieces or it was lost to us as far as any drive to finish and show it off. I really do hope you won't give up on it yet though.
Hugs coming your way, and thanks again for such a tender, loving giveaway.
I just know Daphne is looking down so pleased that she is still working her magic!
I'm happy to hear giggling and laughter, I can hear you now - a sense of humor goes along with being in your "flow"! Enjoy
Lucky girl, that Paula! She'll enjoy yours and Daph's fabrics, I'm sure. ;-)
And so...why are these losers for you? Perhaps they just need to grow on you...or they need to simmer...or ferment. Ew...no. Not the fermenting...but that is what wine does, right? And that's usually good...so don't throw them out just yet, Miss Karen D! Your Frugle Quilter may get after you if you do!
And yes. Laugh at meself? Oh. Yes. That's the only solution some days! We're so in good company, you and me!
Giggles and hugs....
LOL, oh yes, I laugh at myself~ and talk to myself (but only in my head, I hope I don't say anything out loud!) :-))
I don't think your blocks look bad at all! Maybe a little busy, but a border could tie them all together~ try the red. ;-) LOL, I love red! :-))
Have a good day!
I like the idea of alterntaing blocks with cream. I have to laugh at myself so I'm not crying all the time :-)
Congrats Paula! About the blocks - I too agree to put them on point with cream fabric around them. That's what I want to do with the remaining blocks for Terry's quilt. They just don't look right all put together for some reason, but turn 'em and coat 'em and woohoo - the recipe is just right!!
Merry Christmas!
I tend to agree with the others. I love the pattern. There has to be a way to save them. Individually they are beautiful. I don't think you can actually make an ugly quilt. Try the cream set on point like was suggested. I think it will take the busyness away at least some. I might not make 100 more though. Maybe a small quilt.
Oh of course I make myself laugh - sometimes I think I'm the funniest person around. :-)
I like the blocks. But then I think all quilts are works of art, no matter what they turn out like.
Have a great day and god bless.
I hate to agree with you about the block, but I also agree with the other and thing some filler blocks would help.
Sometimes I crack myself up, I will say something and just start laughing. I think this happens as I don't have a very good filter from my brain to my mouth, so some strange stuff slips out.
How about sashing to unify the whole mess? That might make it look more organized but still look scrappy.
Congratulations, Paula! If I didn't laugh at myself, I'd be crying. :-)
What's so wrong with the blocks? Do I need to put my glasses on?
Congrats to Paula!
mmm - now just WHAT do you not like? The only block I do NOT like is the center, light blue background that is slightly crooked, but other than that, it's totally good! Maybe more concentration on light/dark, dark light on the center of the block. I like it - send it to me! 8-))))
One thing we quilters need to learn is how to salvage a project that for whatever reason, we are not thrilled with. I'll bet if you let it settle-in for a few days, something good will start to come to your mind.
Congratulations to Paula! What a treasure she has won! And how wonderful of you to part with such special fabric!
Congratulations to Paula!! What a treat she'll have, working with those fabrics!
Congratulations to Paula! I'm sure she'll make a lovely project with those treasured fabrics.
I do make myself laugh! I figure I'm either a happy person or a brick short of a full load. (I prefer the latter explanation, by the way!)
Congratulations to Paula!!
